the r&r story.

Ride & Roll Cycling put down roots in 2023 by former recording artist, Chase Martin. Born and raised in Charleston, SC, Chase moved to Nashville, TN to "CHASE" (pun intended, of course) her dreams of being a country music artist. While living in Nashville, Chase secured a record deal with, the one and only, Sony Music Entertainment, signed a boutique publishing deal where she got the opportunity to spend her days writing songs with some of the biggest songwriting names in country music, and she built an incredible team of music industry extraordinaries to help her to facilitate a successful career in the music industry.  As Chase made her way through the Nashville scene, she quickly discovered that pursuing a life in the music industry could mean compromising everything that made her who she was and, after seven years in Music City, it became that much more apparent that "could mean" was actually "WOULD mean". The more she realized the music business was not what she always dreamed it would be, subconsciously, she found herself shifting closer and closer towards the solace she had been finding in physical wellness for many years. It wasn’t long before she had extensively researched starting a business in the fitness world - creating business plans, making phone calls, achieving certifications in nutritional coaching/personal training and making all of the necessary moves in the fitness direction. Suddenly, there was a sense of freedom, excitement and passion that she had not otherwise felt in the music industry in years. After realizing what was taking place, it became quite obvious that it was time to evolve and grow into a new beginning rather than to stay in an industry solely because it was the easiest thing to do.

While wrapping up the remainder of her commitments in Nashville, Chase started taking the steps to move back home to Charleston to open her own indoor cycling studio, hoping to come back and share her voice, stories and experiences through the Ride & Roll Cycling community and encourage all that are willing to listen to “chase” their dreams. She wants to pass along her findings and motivate others to, no matter how difficult it may seem in the moment, take chances and make the challenging choices and changes in order to prosper in the one life we get the opportunity to live.

Ride & Roll Cycling is a space anyone can walk into and feel at home away from their home. We are here to support, encourage, motivate and lift up our community and be a safe space for anybody who needs an outlet to relieve stress, feel a connection, be a part of something special and SO MUCH MORE. Sound too good to be true? Don't believe it? Guess you'll just have to book a class to see for yourself.

Ian has been active in the Navy for the last nine years and has traveled nationwide, from Hawaii, New Hampshire, and South Carolina, experiencing many different lifestyle changes. Fitness has always been one of his interests, and he has tried everything from going to the gym to taking laps at the local pool. He was initially skeptical when his wife Kylie introduced him to spin classes. Over time, and with his wife becoming a spin instructor, he found a passion for the spin industry. He found a place to get a great workout while feeling comfortable around strangers he never met. It was a community of acceptance and family like no other in the fitness industry. This newfound love and desire to be a part of the community led him to Ride and Roll.

While part of the Ride and Roll family, he realized its significance in the community. People from all walks of life could meet to engage in an activity that bettered their physical and mental health. He quickly realized that he had to be a part of something greater, and that was this. Since he joined the team, he has begun his journey to become an instructor and developed a completely new platform for classes to engage varying levels of experience in spin. He hopes to reach those who struggle with self-esteem, confidence, and drive to promote the idea that anyone can do this and that it is all a state of mind. Ian believes the world will be better if people are willing to create healthy environments to develop strong mental and physical attitudes. This is where we build, and this is where we learn. This is where we discover ourselves.

With a passion for animal/conservation & health/fitness, Kylie always dreamed big! After graduating high school she began her journey to work as a Marine Mammal Trainer. Graduating with a bachelors from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and completing three internships she eventually got her first paid position as a trainer at SeaWorld Texas! There she worked with Beluga Whales & Pacific White-Sided Dolphins. To her, it was an honor to help educate the public about the incredible animals we share our planet with.

So how did we end up here? Ian got stationed here in Charleston due to the U.S Navy and after 2 years of long distance, it was time to be reunited as a family. With that, Kylie decided to leave the animal care field and pursue something new!

Kylie found her love of teaching spin at Cyclebar while she was in Texas, but always knew she wanted to be a part of building something special in the fitness community. She believes that everything happens for a reason and you meet the right people at the right time.
